Best University Teacher Award 2016 goes to IR Faculty Member!


Dr. Shaheen Akhtar (Associate Professor, International Department NDU) was conferred Best University Teacher Award by Higher Education Commission on 28th Jan 2016 in an impressive ceremony held at Islamabad. The respected faculty has had the privilege to participate in a dialogue on Kashmir, organized by Conciliation Resources in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 25-28th April this year.  She also participated in an International Conference on "Indigenous Resource Management, Challanges and Opportunities"  organized by University of Management Sciences & Information Technology, Kotli, Azad Jammu and Kashmir on 14-15 April 2016.

Dr. Khuram Iqbal, Faculty IR Department NDU, gives a presentation at NACTA!







Dr. Khurram Iqbal (Asst. Professor, NDU) gives presentation on "National Narrative" at NACTA, 5th May '16.  It was attended by all officers of NACTA, National Police Bureau and experts.  

First Young Research of the Year Award was conferred to IR Faculty Member!

Tasawar Hussain is serving as Lecturer in the Department of International Relations (IR) at National
Defense University Islamabad. Before joining NDU in September 2013, he was Lecturer in IR at University of Sargodha. He has also worked as a visiting faculty at International Islamic University and Research Associate at Area Study Center for Africa, North & South America, a teaching and research institution affiliated with Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. In his present position, he teaches courses in the field of International Relations, and supervises research at Masters level. His research focuses on United States foreign policy, human rights and IR theory. He is a member of the Board of Studies of Department of International Relations of Iqra University Islamabad and National Defense University Islamabad. For a brief period of time, he served as Assistant Editor of Journal of Contemporary Studies published by National Defense University. Hussain is enrolled as a PhD candidate in US Studies at Quaid-i-Azam University. He received his MSc and MPhil from the Quaid-i-Azam University and topped in class of 2006-2008. His MPhil Dissertation focused on the role of US media in Iraq War 2003. In 2011, Hussain received Global Merit Scholarship from the University of Sheffield for Masters in International Studies in which he got distinction in Masters Dissertation. He is also twice winner of US State Department’s Scholarship to participate in Summer Programs first, at Salzburg Global Academy in Austria and later, at Ball State University, United States. Recently, Hussain has published in a very prestigious academic journal of NDU—Margalla Papers titled “Identity and US Foreign Policy: Political Rhetoric in Iraq War 2003”. In the recognition of his research contribution, President NDU conferred upon him the first Young Research of the Year Award. His most recent research contribution includes “Making Sense of Ideational and Discursive Factors in War Mediation through Post-Positivist Tradition in International Relations” appeared in internationally indexed Journal of South Asian Studies. Hussain has seven research publications on his credit. Hussain welcomes fruitful academic interaction falling in his area of interest. 

IR faculty member presented a paper at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan!


Mrs. Nargis Zahra (Lecturer, IR Department NDU) has presented a paper titled “Contextualizing Ethnic, Religious and Class Identities among the Pakhtuns of Pakistan: A Case of Contesting Multiplicity” at an International Conference on The Question of Pakhtun Identity in the Pak-Afghan Region: Challenges & Prospects”. The conference was organized by Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar, on April 21st 2016.
